NEVADA Public Death Records

Acquiring death records in Nevada is something that everyone should know how to do, but is a little difficult for most. The Office of Vital Statistics of the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services is responsible for the filing of these death certificates, which are compiled in an archive that dates back to deaths that occurred in 1911. There are death records prior 1911 that are available but you have to visit the specific county records office of the place where the death occurred.

Death records are considered as confidential information within the State of Nevada and are therefore only available to applicants who are allowed to make requests for such documents. The state defines qualified applicants as those who are the direct family members, guardians and legal representatives of the deceased. Applications will also require you to provide basic information about yourself as well as proof of identification.

NEVADA Death Certificates

If you are among those allowed to request for a copy of a death certificate as mentioned above, you can make your request by mail. All you have to do is to complete an application form and send it to the address below:

Office of Vital Records
4150 Technology Way, Suite 104
Carson City, Nevada 89706

You also have to include with the application your money order or check containing the amount of payment required made payable to the Vital Records Office. Death records cost $10 each.

However, state legislation in Nevada has also provided that each county is authorized to create a bank account for the collection of fees in order to finance the County's Coroner's office. According to the rules, the fees charged will increase by $1 in some counties, making the certificates cost $11 each. Other counties, however, may maintain their fees to $10.

If you want to make your request via the internet, you can simply fill the form at the top or bottom of this webiste. Just log onto the website and follow the instructions there. The online service will be faster than the other methods of acquiring the certified copies at the cost of extra handling charges.
